Product Description

Aluminum sulfate, also known as aluminum sulphate, is a versatile inorganic compound with the chemical formula Al2(SO4)3. Its main ingredients are sulfate and aluminum, supplemented with small amounts of calcium and potassium. This product is a white crystal that is easily soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol. The aqueous solution is acidic. The dehydration temperature is 86.5°C. It will lose crystal water when heated to 250°C. When anhydrous aluminum sulfate is heated to 300°C, it begins to decompose. The anhydrous substance has white crystals with pearl luster.

Solid aluminum sulfate (non ferrous) mainly comes in three forms: powder, granules, and flakes. Due to its excellent properties and sustainability that make it vital to our modern lives, this chemical can be widely used in industry, agriculture and medicine, etc.

What Is Aluminum Sulfate Used For

Iron-free aluminum sulfate is mainly used as paper sizing agent, flocculant for drinking water, industrial water and wastewater treatment, and as raw material for the production of artificial gemstones and other aluminum salts, such as ammonia vitriol, potash vitriol and refined aluminum sulfate. In addition, aluminum sulfate is also widely used in the production of clarifiers, petroleum deodorizing and decolorizing agents, concrete waterproofing agents, paper whitening, titanium dioxide post-film treatment, and catalyst carriers.

  • Water treatment. The aluminum sulfate for water treatment is a commonly used flocculant and coagulant, which can be used to remove suspended solids, turbidity, organic matter and heavy metal ions in water. After being dissolved in water, aluminum sulphate can combine with pollutants in the water, causing the fine particles and natural colloidal particles in the water to aggregate into large flocs. After sedimentation or filtration, the impurities can be removed from the water easily.
  • Paper Industry. As an important additive in the pulp and paper production process. It can adjust the pH value of pulp, promote fiber aggregation and precipitation, so as to improve the strength and gloss of paper. At the same time, it is used as a paper sizing agent to enhance the water resistance and anti-leakage properties of paper.
  • Printing and dyeing. Used as a fixing agent for dyes in the dye industry. This is because it can react with dye molecules to form stable complexes, improving the color fastness and durability of dyes.
  • Tanning industry. Aluminum sulphate can be used as a tanning agent and dehairing agent in the tanning industry. It can combine with proteins in leather to form stable complexes, improving the softness, durability and water resistance of leather.
  • Chemical industry. Aluminium sulfate can be used as raw material for the manufacture of artificial gemstones and high-grade ammonium alum, and other aluminates.
  • Fire protection industry. Combine with baking soda and foaming agent to form a foam fire extinguishing agent.
  • Dye industry. Used as a precipitant in the production of chrome yellow and lake dyes, and also serves as a color fixing and filler.
  • Food processing industry. This chemical can be used as an acidifier and stabilizer, which adjust the pH value of food and extend the shelf life of food.
  • Cosmetics industry. Aluminum sulphate can be used as a stabilizer, conditioner, preservative in cosmetics and personal care products. It can increase product viscosity and stability, improving texture and usage experience.
