For example, they can be used as detergent, saponification agent, peeling agent, acid neutralizer, complex masking agent, precipitating agent, precipitation masking agent, color developer, etc.

  • (1) Papermaking industry. It is mainly used in pulp cooking and bleaching processes, which helps to remove lignin and other non-cellulose impurities, thereby improving the purity of pulp. In addition, caustic soda can improve the fiber structure and physical properties of pulp, making the final paper smoother, stronger and more durable.
  • (2) Textile printing and dyeing industry. Widely used in the desizing and scouring processes of cotton fabrics. These processes can remove natural impurities and slurry on cotton fabrics, making the fibers softer and easier to color. At the same time, caustic soda can also be used as a dyeing aid to help dyes better penetrate into the fibers and improve the uniformity and fastness of dyeing.
  • (3) Petrochemical industry. Used as a catalyst and neutralizer for a variety of chemical reactions. For example, 98% caustic soda for sale can undergo saponification reactions with fatty acids to produce soap and glycerol; it can also undergo cracking reactions with heavy oil to prepare light hydrocarbon fuels. In addition, caustic soda can also be used in the desulfurization, deodorization and refining of petroleum products to improve the quality and market value of petroleum products.
  • (4) Metallurgical industry. It can react with alumina in bauxite to produce a soluble sodium aluminate solution. Then, through a series of chemical reactions and physical treatment processes, pure aluminum metal can be extracted from it. In addition, caustic soda can also be used for surface treatment and cleaning of other metals.
  • (5) Food industry.Adjusting the pH of food and as an auxiliary agent in food processing. For example, adding an appropriate amount of caustic soda during food fermentation can reduce the acidity of the fermentation liquid and promote the growth and reproduction of fermentation bacteria; adding caustic soda during food processing can remove oil and impurities on the surface of food and improve the cleanliness and sanitation quality of food.
  • (6) Other uses. In addition to the above main areas, sodium hydroxide for sale has many other uses. For example, caustic soda can be used to prepare chemical reagents, pharmaceutical raw materials and pesticides; it can also be used to prepare daily necessities such as soap, synthetic detergents and synthetic rubber; it can also be used in water treatment, sewage treatment and environmental protection engineering.

Strong alkalinity. Its aqueous solution has an extremely high pH value and can quickly neutralize acidic substances. This strong alkalinity makes caustic soda have significant effects in adjusting the pH of the solution, removing oil stains and acidic impurities, etc.

Solubility. The chemical is very soluble in water, accompanied by a large amount of heat release. This feature makes caustic soda very convenient in preparing aqueous solutions and participating in aqueous solution reactions. At the same time, caustic soda can also be dissolved in solvents such as ethanol and glycerol, which makes it possible to use it in different systems.

Corrosiveness. Caustic soda is highly corrosive and can corrode a variety of metals, non-metals and organic matter. Therefore, when using sodium hydroxide, it is necessary to strictly abide by the safety operating procedures to prevent it from direct contact with the skin, eyes, etc. to avoid injury.

Stability. Caustic soda easily absorbs carbon dioxide in the air and deteriorates to produce sodium carbonate and water. In order to maintain the stability of caustic soda, it needs to be stored in a sealed container and avoid long-term contact with air.

Hygroscopicity. The product has strong hygroscopicity and can absorb water vapor in the air and deliquesce. Therefore, during storage and transportation, appropriate moisture-proof measures need to be taken to prevent caustic soda from getting damp and agglomerating.

Reactivity. It can react chemically with a variety of substances, such as reacting with metal aluminum and zinc to release hydrogen; undergoing disproportionation reactions with halogens (chlorine, bromine, iodine); neutralizing with acids to form salts and water, etc. These reaction characteristics make caustic soda widely used in chemical synthesis, metal processing, textile printing and dyeing, etc.

Economic efficiency. The production process of sodium hydroxide is relatively mature, the production cost is low, and it has a wide range of applications and a large market demand. This makes caustic soda an economical and practical chemical raw material.

Both caustic soda flakes and caustic soda pearls are solid forms of sodium hydroxide with essentially the same chemical composition, but they differ significantly in physical form, performance, and applications.

(1) In terms of appearance, caustic soda flakes consist of thin white flakes produced by evaporating and pressing liquid caustic soda, whereas caustic soda pearls consist of uniform small white pellets or pearls, typically produced by spray granulation.

(2) Regarding purity, caustic soda flakes commonly have a purity of 96% or 99%, which are mainly suitable for industrial use. While caustic soda pearls can generally achieve 99% or higher purity with lower impurities.

(3) In terms of handling and performance, the former (flakes) dissolves relatively quickly but is highly hygroscopic, prone to caking, and can break into powder during transport. And the latter (pearls) has uniform particles, better flowability, and dissolves more evenly, making it safer and easier to handle without excessive splashing or clumping.

(4) Storage requirements also differ: caustic soda flakes require more stringent moisture protection, whereas caustic soda pearls are easier to store and transport. They are typically packaged in plastic drums or high-strength composite bags for improved moisture resistance.

(5) In terms of applications, caustic soda flakes are mainly used in conventional industrial processes such as paper production, textile processing, electroplating, and wastewater treatment. While caustic soda pearls are preferred in industries that demand higher purity and stability, including pharmaceuticals, food processing, high-end water treatment, and specialty chemical manufacturing.

Overall, caustic soda flakes are cost-effective and suitable for general industrial use, while caustic soda pearls offer better handling, safety, and consistency, making it ideal for high-end applications. Selection should be based on operational requirements, safety considerations, and budget constraints.

(1) Operational Safety Requirements

Protective equipment including alkali-resistant gloves, chemical safety goggles, and protective clothing must be worn to avoid direct skin contact.

When dissolving solid caustic soda, it must be added slowly into water while stirring to dissipate heat. Do not add water into caustic soda, as it may cause violent splashing and severe burns.

In case of accidental contact with skin, rinse immediately with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. If caustic soda comes into contact with eyes, rinse for at least 20 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.

(2) Storage and Transportation Standards

Store in a tightly sealed container in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from acids, metal powders, paper, and other combustible materials. Storage temperature must not exceed 30°C.

Transport in plastic drums or stainless-steel tank containers. Avoid collisions or leakage; use protective covers during rainy weather.

Transport vehicles must be equipped with emergency spill response equipment, such as dilute acid neutralizers and absorbent pads.
