Classification of Polypropylene Resin

Polypropylene resin can be classified into various categories. According to the different spatial positions of methyl groups (-CH3) in the polypropylene molecule, it can be divided into three categories: isotactic, syndiotactic and atactic. According to the polymerization process, the polymerization of isotactic polypropylene can be divided into slurry method, bulk method, solution method and gas phase method. According to the use of PP granules, it can be divided into flat yarn (narrow tape), fiber, film, extrusion, blow molding, injection molding, etc.

1. Impact Copolymer

1. Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP)

BOPP is the most important polypropylene film. It’s a great alternative to cellophane, wax paper, and aluminum foil. Orientation increases tensile strength and stiffness, reduces elongation (harder to stretch), and improves optical properties and, to some extent, vapor barrier properties. In general, BOPP has higher tensile strength, higher modulus (stiffness), lower elongation, better gas barrier and lower haze than CPP.

Uses of Polypropylene (PP)

  • (1) Woven products. The polypropylene PP consumed by woven products (plastic woven bags, tarpaulins and ropes, etc.) has always accounted for a high proportion in China, and it is also the largest market for polypropylene consumption in my country, mainly used for the packaging of food, fertilizer and cement.
