Classification of Polypropylene Resin
Polypropylene resin can be classified into various categories. According to the different spatial positions of methyl groups (-CH3) in the polypropylene molecule, it can be divided into three categories: isotactic, syndiotactic and atactic. According to the polymerization process, the polymerization of isotactic polypropylene can be divided into slurry method, bulk method, solution method and gas phase method. 1. Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP)
BOPP is the most important polypropylene film. It’s a great alternative to cellophane, wax paper, and aluminum foil. Orientation increases tensile strength and stiffness, reduces elongation (harder to stretch), and improves optical properties and, to some extent, vapor barrier properties. In general, BOPP has higher tensile strength, higher modulus (stiffness), lower elongation, better gas barrier and lower haze than CPP.
